Historical Electronics Museum, Inc. - History of the Nation's Defense Electronics

The National Electronics Museum has several sources of materials for research on defense electronics with new sources being developed. Most items can be viewed on request. Because of its small staff size please allow NEM 30 days to process research request.

The library contains over 10,000 volumes. Most can be searched via author, title, and subject. NEM is developing a searchable electronic database.

The archival collection consists of a large collection of journals, magazines, technical manuals, and ephemera. In most cases ephemera and manuals are sorted by subject only.

Consisting of approximately 300 titles, DVD and VHS tapes are arranged by title and subject. NEM has approximately 500 films, one third can be searched by subject. Because of their age and rarity, NEM requires a digital copy be made prior to viewing. The photographic collection consists of approximately 2,000 images, in most cases, arranged by subject matter.

The National Electronic Museum has a collection of catalogued and uncatalogued original artwork and prints. With a subject matter centered on weapon and electronic systems, NEM's collection of artwork presents a unique perspective on the development and deployment of late Twentieth Century defense electronics.

The National Electronics Museum currently has approximately 20,000 artifacts in its holdings. These range in size and complexity from a 90 mm AA gun to silicon chips. NEM has a collections database searchable by museum staff. NEM is developing a searchable electronic database.

A limited number of oral histories are available. Most are on VHS and are not transcribed.


The museum and library, including the DVD and VHS collections, are open during normal business hours. Access to the artifact collection, archives, films, and artwork by qualified researchers can be arranged by calling 410-765-3803 or e-mailing michael.simons@ngc.com.

  • Copies of documents - $ 0.15 (staff produced copies are $ 0.25)
  • Photograph reproductions - $ 10.00/20.00 digital/prints
  • Video and DVD reproduction $ 30.00
